The La Salle IL Police Department is committed to transparency, accountability, and responsible use of technology in support of public safety.
This transparency portal provides the public with information about the Department’s use of Flock Safety license plate reader technology. The portal is intended to provide insight into how the system is being utilized as a law enforcement tool while protecting the privacy and civil liberties of the community we serve.
Flock camera data is retained for only seven (7) days. After seven days, the collected camera data is automatically deleted in accordance with the Department’s data retention practices.
To provide the public with a broader historical perspective, the statistics displayed in this portal including the number of searches and other activity reflect activity from the previous 30 days. As a result, the activity statistics may cover a longer period than the seven-day retention period for the underlying camera data. The 30-day reporting period is intended to give residents a meaningful picture of how the technology is being used over time rather than representing only the most recent seven days.
Flock technology is used as an investigative and public-safety resource, and access to the system is subject to Department policies, applicable laws, training, and auditing requirements. The technology is not intended to replace traditional police investigative practices or serve as a substitute for probable cause or other legal requirements when those requirements apply.
The La Salle IL Police Department believes La Salle resident deserve to know how technology used in public safety is being utilized. We will continue to evaluate our practices and provide information that promotes public confidence, accountability, and responsible policing.
